Vital Surgical didn't begin with a business plan or market opportunity. It began with patients who had nowhere else to go.

These patients had traveled for specialized surgical care, sometimes hundreds of miles, to get the procedure they needed. But when complications or concerns arose during recovery, they found themselves stranded. Their local providers wouldn't see them because they didn't perform the original surgery. The distant surgeon's office told them to seek care locally. Caught in an impossible loop, these patients were shuffled between providers, each with a reason why they weren't their responsibility. These were patients who did everything right, who made difficult decisions about their health, only to be abandoned by a system that wasn't designed to care for them in their most vulnerable moments.

We never set out to build a private practice. We started by caring for these patients. When medical orphans came to us with complications, concerns, and nowhere else to turn, we helped them. We were doing what felt fundamentally right.

Then came a turning point. Word spread about the care we were providing, and patients began asking if we could perform their corrective surgeries, not just to provide post-operative care. They wanted comprehensive care from providers they could trust, from start to finish.

In 2021, Dr. Sean Gregg secured a relationship with Westmount Medical Centre to begin the first procedures, helping Canadians remain in Canada and receive both pre and post-operative care close to home. What started as addressing an urgent, unmet need evolved organically into something more comprehensive.
