About Dr. Sean Gregg

Dr. Sean Gregg MD FRCSC is a Canadian General Surgeon with a fellowship in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery. Though his first university degree was a B.Sc. in physics, he completed medical school at the University of Calgary in 2004. He went on to a 5 year residency in General Surgery at the University of Calgary to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 2009.

He began his career with a broad practice in oncology, acute care surgery and trauma, bariatric surgery as well as a core general surgical practice in hernia, gallbladder, and breast surgery. He built a strong foundation in advanced laparoscopics and surgical innovation.

In 2012-2013 Dr. Gregg returned to Calgary to build on an interest in complex liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery. He has practiced in Red Deer, Alberta from 2009-2024. His career has been characterized by a relentless attention to detail and skill in the operating room combined with near obsessive focus on the patient experience.

In addition to a remarkable clinical practice, Dr. Gregg has built several projects aimed at offering a high level of care and more personalized service than he was able to offer in Canada’s public framework. He is the president of Medalta Healthcare which owns and operates public and private medical services in Canada.  He is also the founder and CEO of Vital Surgical which is a collaborative group of like-minded healthcare providers that aim to do more for their patients.

Dr. Gregg was raised rurally in Alberta and lives with his family in Canmore where he enjoys an active outdoor life of soccer, skiing, and family time. He is passionate about offering excellent access to high quality surgical services both in Canada and internationally. He has built private programs across Canada and currently operates at the Cambie Clinic in Vancouver as well as with Vital Surgical in Calgary. He is a lifelong advocate for surgical care in the developing world and has volunteered to share his knowledge and surgical skills with doctors and patients across 4 different continents. Patients and staff are always quick to comment on his kindness, compassion, and sincerity.
